GUM Learning was initiated by a group of Canadian-born Asian high school students. GUM is a non-profit organization, with a goal to build a global language learning platform for students who are interested in language study. The organization's mission is to improve global students' language proficiency including English, French, Chinese and other languages. Since its establishment in March 2020, the organization has recruited 398 teachers and students (126 volunteer instructors and 272 registered students) from all over the world.

GUM provides:
- One-on-one online paid tutoring classes.
- Tuition-free language courses to disadvantaged students.

Now GUM Learning has students from all over the world, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Vietnam, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and the United States. The teachers’ instruction has been highly praised by students. Each year GUM hosts and co-organizes various language competitions to actively engage students. GUM has also launched many programs to encourage student instructors to participate in and promote volunteerism in their communities. Instructors receive points and recognition as well as volunteer certificates. Annual excellent instructors vote will be conducted. Many student instructors got inspired and started their own branches of GUM in their community.
